College of Veterinary Science had already been accredited in 2013, said S Prabhakar, registrar, GADVASU.

He added that over a short span of eight years, both the colleges had made significant contributions in the field of teaching, research and extension in fisheries and dairy technology. They had generated quality skilled graduates and postgraduates and delivered need-based technologies for expansion in the respective sectors.

A ‘Lab to land’ programme for extension of the developed technology to the state farmers has brought many extensive changes in these sectors and enhanced the economic status of the farming community.

Considering the infrastructure and significant manpower, the ICAR granted accreditation to these colleges. College of Fisheries, through an innovative research, has established protocols whereby fisheries can also be undertaken in waterlogged and salt-affected southern districts of the state. Further research is in progress on development of high value fish to boost profitability of the farms.

College of Dairy Science and Technology has developed Milk Cooler for use by small holder private farms. Research on value addition to milk products and extension of the technology to farmers had shown dividends to their income, said AS Nanda, vice-chancellor, GADVASU.
