Gang of dacoits busted, 7 held

ABOHAR: With the arrest of Anmol Bishnoi (18), the younger brother of gangster Lawrence Bishnoi, and six of his accomplices, the district police claimed to have busted an inter-state gang which was allegedly involved in at least three major dacoities in the Abohar subdivision.

With the arrest of Anmol Bishnoi (18), the younger brother of gangster Lawrence Bishnoi, and six of his accomplices, the district police claimed to have busted an inter-state gang which was allegedly involved in at least three major dacoities in the Abohar subdivision.

Lawrence, a former president of the Panjab University Students Union, is facing 21 criminal cases in Rajasthan, Mohali, Chandigarh and Haryana. He was arrested by the Fazilka district police on March 5 along with his accomplices near Indo-Pak border. After his arrest, his younger brother Anmol allegedly formed a gang with youths of Abohar villages, all aged 18 to 21 years. The police said they were involved in various robberies at gunpoint and extortion cases.

Besides Anmol, those arrested are Sachin Thapan, Ankit Bhadoo, Ankit Jakhar, Arzoo Thalour, Praveen Gogi and Vikram. The police have recovered Rs 1.75 lakh, six country-made revolvers of .12 bore, two pistols of .315 bore, two pistols of .32 bore and .12-bore DBBL gun along with two motorcycles.

Fazilka Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Swapan Sharma said the gang had been operating for the past ten months in Fazilka district, Sriganganagar and Hanumangarh districts of Rajasthan and Sirsa district of Haryana.
