Additional District and Sessions Judge Poonam R Joshi’s court sentenced Mandeep Singh to 10 years of imprisonment in a gang-rape case. He was fined over Rs 1 lakh. The police had registered an FIR on the complaint of a woman of Balachaur area on May 10, 2012. The complainant alleged three youths abducted her in a car on that day and raped her. She alleged she was later dumped near Jahankhelan. The other co-accused, Mitthu’s brother died, while the third accused was at large.

Five booked for fraud

Five persons have been booked for allegedly running a job racket. The accused have been identified as Charanjit Singh, Baljit Singh, Karamvir Singh, Narinder Garg and Sandeep Singh. They are still at large. Amarjit Singh of Dabwali Rahurianwali village complained that he had paid the accused persons Rs 7 lakh to get a job.

Rs2 cr for SC girls’ hostel

Government Mohindra College, Patiala, has received a grant of Rs 2 crore from Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment under the Babu Jagjiwan Ram Chhravas Scheme to raise new hostel for girl students belonging to the Scheduled Castes. College principal Dr Sukhbir Singh Thind  said the objective of the scheme was to provide residential accommodation to SC students of the college.

2 held in murder case

Jagseer Singh and Jagtar Singh of Gujran village have been arrested for allegedly murdering 25-year-old youth Inderjit Singh of Gujran village. He had gone missing on September 30, 2014. Dirba Deputy Superintendent of Police Manjit Brar said the two had confessed to the murder. He said they allegedly killed Inderjit as he had an “illicit relationship” with Jagseer’s sister.

12 hurt as bus overturns

At least 12 persons were injured after an “overcrowded” bus overturned near Panjawa village on Wednesday. The bus belonged to a senior SAD leader of the area. Sources said several people were sitting atop the bus. The injured were referred to multi-speciality hospitals in Bathinda and Faridkot.

Cop’s son booked 

A Sub-Inspector’s son and two others have been booked for allegedly kidnapping a young woman of Padrana village. Goldy’s father, Ashok Kumar, is posted in Nawanshahr. The case was registered on the complaint of Ramanjit’s mother Manjit Kaur.
