Over two-and-a-half-years after registration of a gang rape and kidnapping case against him and others, Punjabi singer Jarnail Singh alias Jelly today surrendered before a local court here today.

He was arrested by the police and the court remanded him to two days in police custody.

Jelly and three others were booked in the last week of October in 2014 on the complaint of a Punjabi actress.

A case under Sections 376-D (gangrape), 376 (rape), 363 (kidnapping), 366 (kidnapping, abducting or inducing woman to compel her for marriage), 506 (criminal intimidation) and 120-B (criminal conspiracy) of the IPC and Section 66 of the IT Act had been registered at the Phase 1 police station.

Other accused in the case include Swaran Singh, Maninder Singh and Charanpreet Singh, all associates of Jelly.

In her complaint to the then SSP on September 29, 2014, the victim had alleged that the accused had blackmailed and raped her several times after video-recording the act. She alleged that she had come into contact with the singer to learn singing and started training with Jelly at Sector 57 where she was allegedly gang raped by the accused after being served a spiked soft drink. She had also alleged that the accused had also recorded the act and used it to blackmail and rape her repeatedly.
