Gangster cremated at native village

Kaithal/Karnal, April 11

Gangster Surender Geong, who was killed in an encounter with the Karnal police on April 8, was cremated at his native Geong village in Kaithal district today.

Earlier, his body was brought from Karnal by his family members accompanied by the police.

Sources said policemen in mufti were well armed, suspecting some criminals could come for Geong’s cremation. Villagers kept their shops closed.

Earlier, his family had refused to accept the body and were demanding a CBI inquiry into the incident. They had even raised questions over the encounter and alleged that the police murdered Geong at the behest of a senior Congress leader.

A board comprising three doctors conducted the post-mortem yesterday.
