A young lawyer Rajat Gautam of Haryana was unanimously elected as the 38th chairman of Bar Council of Punjab and Haryana today.
Earlier, Rakesh Gupta was the chairman, who served about 15 months. He resigned from his post today in the general house meeting paving way for the election of new chairman.
Gautam said he would work for the betterment of legal fraternity. He showed his commitment to maintain the dignity of young lawyers and respect senior lawyers in courts. His candidature was strongly backed by Parupkar Singh Ghumman( former vice-chairman of the Bar Council), CM Munjal, Partap Singh( former Bar Council chairman) and Amit Rana, member Bar Council of India group. His supporters congratulated him.
Ghumman said the newly elected chairman was an energetic young, dynamic leader. That’s why, he was fielded as candidate by their group having 16 members out of total 25.
Bar council secretary Parvesh Yadav, Lekh Raj Sharma, Ashok Singla, RS Badhran, Gurinder Pal Singh, Jaiveer Yadav, Lokesh Sinhal, J K Maheswari also backed the candidature of Gautam.
