Muktsar, October 12
Raj Kumar Verka, Vice-Chairman, National Commission for Scheduled Castes, today asked the district administration to provide Rs 8.5 lakh compensation to the family of 21-year-old Sukhchain Singh, who was brutally murdered on Monday.
Verka, who visited the town today, directed the Mansa SP Rakesh Kumar to arrest the accused within three days and file a report to the commission. The commission has also recommended the registration of a case under the SC and ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act against four of the six accused.
The Mansa police told the commission that the amputated leg of the deceased was found today and handed over to the family. The police claimed that seven police teams had been formed to nab the accused.
Meanwhile, the family of 18-year-old Ajay Singh alias Pahwa, who was allegedly murdered by some youngsters of his locality over his refusal to sell liquor on October 8, met Verka and raised questions over the police functioning. Judge Singh, the deceased’s father, a rickshaw-puller, alleged: “Those coming to our house to offer condolence are being threatened. We have informed the police, but no action was taken.” Verka directed the cops to provide security to the family.
