To mark the auspicious occasion of Chaitra Navratri, two idols of Goddess Durga in the form of Kali have been installed each at Julakari and Mai-Ka-Bagh localities of Chamba town today.
The idols made of clay have been created by Puran Chand, a sculptor of Mohalla Chamesni in the town. “I am making clay idols of Kali free of cost for the past almost 27 years. I learnt the art of making idols of Lord Ganesha, Goddess Durga in the Virat form of Goddess Kali, Goddess Lakshmi, etc from Kolkata artists,” said the 68-year-old sculptor.
Chaitra Navratri is one of the most auspicious festivals, wherein devotees worship Goddess Durga and her nine forms for nine days and nights. The idols of Goddess Kali, which were placed in these two localities today would be immersed in the Ravi on the auspicious occasion of Sri Ram Navami.
