Vidya Vasan, secretary of the Dehradun Chapter of Society for Promotion of Indian Classical Music and Culture Among Youth (SPIC MACAY), and her colleagues met Governor KK Paul at Raj Bhavan on Friday. They apprised him about the activities of their organisation.
The Governor said the organisation should make more efforts to bring artistes of Uttarakhand and of other states closer and help them share the rich cultural heritage of the country so that school and college students could become more familiar with the country’s cultural diversity.
Paul said classical and folk artistes of Uttarakhand should be given more opportunities of exhibiting their talent and should be taken to other states of the country by SPIC MACAY.
He told the representatives of SPIC MACAY that schools of the remote rural areas should be chosen on priority basis for holding programmes. This would inspire the young talent in these areas and would familiarise them with the culture of the entire country.
