Dhiman, who was posted as the District Transport Officer and Sub-Divisional Magistrate in Sangrur, has replaced Uma Shankar Gupta.

Gupta will now take charge as Joint Secretary, Information and Public Relations, and Joint Principal Secretary to Punjab Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal.

Gupta has been transferred 22 days before his three-year tenure as the MC Commissioner was to come to an end next month.

Gupta, whose tenure witnessed several laudable projects, including mechanised sweeping, CRAMAT application, introduction of property tax, solar power panels on government buildings and LED street lights in the town, also made headlines for his tense relations with Mohali Mayor Kulwant Singh and Deputy Mayor Manjit Singh Sethi and certain controversies involving him and Joint Commissioner Nayan Bhullar.

On his transfer from the post, Gupta said he was happy over the development. “I was no more interested in serving as the Mohali MC Commissioner for obvious reasons. I am satisfied with the work I did for the development of the town during my tenure as the MC Commissioner,” said Gupta.
