Jaitu (Faridkot), August 16
The cremation of one of the most celebrated Punjabi novelists, Prof Gurdial Singh, who passed away in Bathinda today, will take place at 10 am on Thursday.
A resident of Jaitu near Faridkot, the winner of Jnanpith Award had a hip joint fracture a few days ago at his residence. Days after a surgery for this fracture at a hospital in Ludhiana, Gurdial Singh was showing signs of recovery. But about a week ago, due to problems in his kidneys, he was shifted to a private hospital in Bathinda, where he took his last breath today afternoon.
Prof Gurdial Singh was living in Jaitu with his wife Balwat Kaur and his son Ravinder Rahi, a whole-timer with Taraksheel Society Punjab.
One of his two daughters is married to Jalour Singh Khiva, a Punjabi writer, based at Faridkot. The other daughter is settled in Mohali.
