The citizen portal, an online system of the Haryana Police, seems to be “alien technology” for the Panchkula police.

Minutes after the launch of the citizen portal, “Har Samay”, by Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar, when it came to operating the system, local policemen were completely at sea.

A reality check by this reporter found that many SHOs did not know how to operate the system. Asked how the system would work, under which people would send their complaints online, the officials gave brusque replies. Some did not even know what a “web link” is.

On being told that this reporter was unable to access “Har Samay”, the SHO of the Pinjore police station, Inspector Satish Kumar, said, “Frankly speaking, I don’t know how it is operated.” He asked his colleague, who also expressed ignorance in the matter.

The SHO of the Sector 5 police station, Inspector Suresh Kumar, too, was ignorant about the system. “My munshi can help you in case you are unable to access the system,” he said.

The SHO of the Sector 14 police station, Inspector Kamaljeet, said, “Sorry, I can’t guide you how to access it. I have not been trained to operate it. Slowly, we will get the hang of it.”

Other SHOs also came with similar replies. Only the SHO of the the Mansa Devi Complex, Inspector Suraj Chawla, was able to give information about access to the citizen portal.

DCP Hamid Akhtar said, “Orientation classes were held for three days to help policemen learn the ropes. As stated during the launch, it will take some time for the force to learn the entire functioning. Computer operators have been fully trained for the purpose.”

Services just a click away

A project of the Haryana Police, the citizen portal, “Har Samay”, was launched by Haryana CM Manohar Lal Khattar at Indradhanush Auditorium, Sector 5, here today. People can now lodge their complaints online and can even know the status of their case online. Several other services will also be available at the click of a mouse.

No mention of several police stations

The details of only four police stations of Panchkula were available on “Har Samay”. There was no mention of the MDC, Pinjore and Kalka police stations.
