HC allows goats in Naina Devi temple
Nainital, September 9
The Uttarakhand High Court has finally allowed the request of taking sacrificial goats inside the Naina Devi temple here but the ban on slaughter continues, an official said on Friday.
The 113th Naina Devi Mela is at present underway at the famous temple in Nainital. A PIL was filed against the earlier decision of the high court banning animal sacrifice on the temple premises.
A Bench of Justice VK Bist and Justice UC Dhyani on Thursday disposed of the PIL and ordered that the sacrificial goat be allowed for ‘puja’ in the temple but animal slaughter was not allowed.
“We will ensure that the directive is implemented and hence CCTV cameras will monitor the entry of devotees. There will only be one gate for entry and the sacrificial animals will be allowed on the basis of a token system,” an official said. IANS
