“We think the problem can be addressed by involving all stakeholders, including the Irrigation and Public Health Department, Shimla Municipal Corporation (SMC), Health Department, Pollution Control Board, residents welfare associations and NGOs,” said Dr SC Dhiman, former chairman, Central Groundwater Board, during a workshop organised by the SMC.

Dr Dhiman said the committee headed by the chief secretary would work out a solution.

Mayor Sanjay Chauhan said: “We will forward the recommendation to the state government as the SMC is serious about finding a permanent solution to the drinking water problem in the city.”

SMC Commissioner Pankaj Rai gave a detailed presentation on the steps that the SMC had taken to make residents aware of the importance of clean water storage and proper disposal of the sewage from their houses.
