Dehradun, February 27

Domestic and commercial electricity consumers opposed the monthly and fixed electricity charges in public hearing held by Uttarakhand Electricity Regulatory Commission (UERC) at the Indian Medical Association hall here today.

The UERC ogranised a public hearing before approving the new electricity tariff for 2015-16. The residents demanded that Uttarakhand Power Corporation Limited (UPCL) should take effective steps for timely distribution of electricity bills to consumers.

The commercial electricity consumers expressed concern that it had become difficult for them to pay monthly rental charges due to seasonal production in their manufacturing units.

UPCL had proposed nearly 25 per cent tariff hike for the next financial year.
