An SGPC official said at least 12 pages were torn and the miscreants had attempted to set them on fire. A match box was also recovered from the spot which didn’t work, apparently, due to moisture, he said.

The SGPC has taken the damaged book in its possession.

SGPC president Avtar Singh Makkar asked the administration to nab the culprits and bring them to justice. Cabinet minister Gulzar Singh Ranike urged the residents to offer voluntary service for the security of Guru Granth Sahib.

A case has been registered against unidentified persons.
