Mohali, July 4
The health authorities stepped up the vigil after a case of dengue surfaced at Balongi village. Dr Avtar Singh, nodal officer, said a team of doctors visited the patient at Balongi village.
“In fact, the patient had come to the village to meet somebody. The patient is a resident of Bulandshahr, Uttar Pradesh. However, we have checked at least 100 houses of the area but found no larvae of dengue,” said Dr Avtar Singh.
Apart from distributing medicines to check the breeding of the larvae, fogging was also carried out in the entire area.
“To cope up with the problem effectively, an isolation ward has been set up at the Mohali Civil Hospital,” said Dr Andesh Kang, Senior Medical Officer at the hospital.
She said all arrangements had been put in place. “We have a laboratory to test dengue. The laboratory will be functional round-the-clock,” said Dr Kang.
Meanwhile, the authorities also claimed to have started awareness campaigns against the disease in the area.
“We will observe a dry day every week and our health teams will check water bodies or waterlogged areas, coolers and pots to check the breeding of larvae,” said the official.
