The two-and-a-half-storey house of Girdhari Lal having 18 rooms and his livestock perished in a devastating fire at Mathehan village in Banjar subdivision here today.

Banjar SDM MR Bhardwaj said the fire broke out in the afternoon and the house was completely ruined. The SDM said the family members of Thakur Singh and Ramesh, sons of Girdhari Lal, were also residing in the same house. Villagers tried to douse the flames, but to no avail. As the village was not connected by a road, fire tenders could not reach there. The SDM said a team of revenue officials had been sent to the spot to take stock of the situation and provide immediate relief to the affected. All possible assistance would be given to the fire victims. The cause of the fire could not be ascertained, he added.
