With special emphasis on the health of students, especially in the hilly state like J&K, the Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti (NVS) in its Perspective Academic Planning (PAP) 2014-15 has instructed all Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas (JNVs) that principals, housemasters and other teachers must conduct fortnightly inspection of classrooms, dormitories and other important places.
Sources said the housemasters had been instructed to daily submit report to principals indicating the welfare and presence of children.
Regular roll-call and attendance should be taken by housemaster twice daily.
According to the PAP 2014-15, the staff nurse in the school will attend to a sick child immediately. No illness of the child is to be taken casually or a routine manner. Instead the symptoms of illness and medicines given should be recorded in a register. The sick student should not be left alone in the dormitory at any time.
All the vidyalayas have been told to set up a separate room for sick children equipped with essential material, attached bathroom and other facilities. The housemaster has to ensure that the child is being provided medical treatment properly.
Further, the institutions will have to arrange special diet, if necessary, for sick student and instructions to be issued to catering assistant/mess staff accordingly.
“Sometimes vidyalaya doctor is not available. At that time, the vidyalaya will have to consult a qualified doctor of the nearby health centre/hospital. If the part-time doctor and staff nurse feel that the illness of the child cannot be diagnosed immediately, then the child has to be immediately shifted to a nearby government hospital for further examination,” sources in the JVS said.
“In case of any serious illness of the child and the vidyalaya requires any expenditures to incur on them, the amount may be incurred by the vidyalaya without any delay and later on it can be got reimbursed by the parents. Treatment cannot be delayed for want of finance. The record about the sick child is to be maintained and informed to the principal daily in the evening,” a NVS statement mentioned.
