Human resource India’s biggest strength: Scientist

Chandigarh: Noted Scientist, Secretary General of The World Academy of Sciences and fellow of the Royal Society, London, Prof AK Sood on Monday said human resource is the biggest strength of India in sciences. Prof Sood interacted with the faculty of the Physics Department and shared his memories of student days. He also had a meeting with fellows and new faculty members of the PU science departments. Prof Sood encouraged the researchers to make some contributions, which stand the test of time. The strength of Indian science is the manpower with passion. Talking about the good ranking of Panjab University, Prof Sood said: “It was a matter of great pleasure but we should not feel complacent. Let me give unsolicited advice to not to stop here. If it is ranked 232nd today, we should work for 32nd ranking”.

Competition on ‘best smile with braces’

Mohali: In an effort to promote oral health care, Rayat Bahra Dental College and Hospital held ‘best smile with braces’ competition on the college premises in Mohali. Students from all departments assembled at the venue and welcomed ‘Smile Torch’ walk on the campus. Students and faculty member of the Orthodontics Departments gave tips to the gathering on the upkeep of their teeth and maintain oral hygiene, a press note issued by the Rayat Bahra Dental College and Hospital said. A competition on ‘best smile with braces’ was also organised to mark the event. Dr Paramjit Singh, director of the hospital, said: “If you want to hide your braces, make sure it’s a small smile. If you have had them long enough and they are back far enough you can keep your lips together, just smile with the corners of your mouth”. Apart from students, Dr Jagjit Dhaliwal, principal, Dr Deepankar, Professor and Head, Department of Orthodontics, and faculty members also participated in the walk. — TNS
