Hybrid cow yields 62 kg milk, sets record

A Holstein Friesian (HF) cow of a private dairy farm at Ludhiana today created a new national record by giving 61.8 kg milk in a day at the ongoing National Livestock Championship here.
Dr HS Sandha, Director, Animal Husbandry, said an HF cow of the Satluj Dairy Farm yielded 61.8 kg milk today, setting a new national record. “It has broken the previous record of 58.88 kg of milk yield a day,” he said.
He said a Sahiwal cow and a Beetal goat have also created a record in the milking competition under the championship. “The Sahiwal cow of Gurmel Singh from Muktsar yielded 22.733 kg milk and a Beetal goat of Amritsar’s Savinder Singh yielded 4.297 kg in the milking competition,” he said.
Meanwhile, Yuvraj, a Murrah bull, was adjudged the best Murrah bull.
Karambir Singh, owner of the 1,400-kg bull, claimed that a resident of Andhra Pradesh had offered him Rs 7 crore for Yuvraj, but he had declined the offer.
The award for owning the best Nukra horse was given to Jaspal Singh of Muktsar. The best Marwari horse is owned by Jaswinder Singh of Ambala (Haryana).
Agriculture Minister Tota Singh was the guest of honour, who motivated the farmers to take up animal husbandry. A seminar on fisheries was organised on the occasion.
