A sub-inspector with the Chandigarh Police may face arrest for the allegedly being a part of a gang of women that used to befriend men and then extort money.
This came to light when a girl told the police about the conspiracy to kidnap a businessman’s daughter. She told the police how the SI was actively involved in such cases.
“The gang members used to befriend men through a social networking site and then take them for a drive to Chandigarh. Then they would be stopped by the SI, who on the pretext of checking extorted money, which was divided later,” said a senior police official.
Yesterday, the police booked Varun, who is lodged in the Chandigarh jail, for extorting money from a business along with his female friends. Varun is lodged in the jail in a drug case.
