Inderjit, Shubham win medals in weightlifting

Chandigarh, February 7
Inderjit Kaur of Panjab University lifted a total weight of 151kg to claim the first place in the women’s under 48kg category on the opening day of the All-India Inter-University Weightlifting (men and women) Championship here today. Deepika of University of Delhi finished second after lifting 150kg, while Thushmita of Manglore University lifted 139kg to finish third. Prem Chand Degra, former Mr Universe and president of IBBF, and Arjuna Awardee Tara Singh inaugurated the championship. In the men’s under 56kg category, Todkar Shubham of Savitra Bai Phula University, Pune, finished first with 228kg, Manoj Kumar of Bharatidasan University, Tamil Nadu, finished second with 225kg and Chinnam Naidu of Andhra University claimed the third position with 218kg category.
In the best physique competition, Manpreet Singh of Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar, won first position in the men’s under 60kg. Akhil Chopra of Calicut University finished second and Ramandeep Singh of Lovely Professional University, Phagwara, finished third. In the 65kg category, J Praveen of Vels University finished first, Vignesha of Manglore University claimed the second spot while Mangal Singh of Guru Nanak Dev University finished third. In the under 70kg category, Pratik Chandrakant of University of Mumbai, Vipin Sharma of Chandigarh University and Annu Kumar of MDU, Rohtak, won the gold, silver and bronze, respectively. In the under 75kg category, R Munuswamy of University of Madras finished first while Upanshu Jaiswal of VBS, Purvanchal University, and Sachin Kumar of Panjab University finished second and third, respectively.
