India’s star table tennis players visited The Doon School on Wednesday. The players who visite the school are G. Sathiyan, Amalraj, Harmeet Desai, Sourav Saha and Jubin Kumar.
Amalraj is a silver medallist in Commonwealth games 2014 in Men doubles event and National games 2015 gold medallist. G. Sathiyan is current Men’s India No. 1 and ranked 175 in the world. The school captain, Chaitanaya Agarwal welcomed the players.
On this occasion, the headmaster Dr. Peter McLaughlin welcomed the players and addressed them. He said that star players’ visit to the school will definitely motivate DOSCOS to improve their skill in table tennis.
The star players played exhibition matches with each other and the school table tennis team members. They interacted with the school table tennis team and gave them some tips to improve their skills. During interaction with the team, they answered many questions which were put up by the Doon school boys. One boy asked Sathiyan that how he managed table tennis with his academics? G.Sathiyan answered that till class 12, it’s very difficult to manage sport at this level with academics but once you get into college, it becomes smooth to pursue your game. A. Amalraj spoke to the boys that you need hard work to improve upon your techniques and skills. Harmeet Desai, Jubin Kumar and Sourav Saha inspired the school table tennis team by giving them extra guidelines.
Assistant headmaster P.K Nair, Dr. Arvindanabha Shukla, Director of sports, Team Coordinator Iswar Borthakur, Team Mentor, Amit Kashyap, Chitaranjan Kagdee, Narendra Singh and masters’ in-charge of all sports and other members of the staff were also present.
