The next two days will be important for the state politics, as Jats and non-Jats are geared up to show their strength in their respective rallies.

Two Jat mahapanchayats are scheduled in the district’s Gwalison and Mandhothi villages on Sunday, while non-Jats will assemble at Jantar Mantar in Delhi the next day.

Both sections are likely to serve ultimatum on the BJP-led Haryana Government to meet their demands.

Jats are demanding withdrawal of cases against youths from the community in connection with violence and arson during last month’s agitation over OBC reservation, Rs 1-crore aid and a government job to a member of each family of the deceased.

As for non-Jats, they are seeking compensation for those who suffered property loss during the stir, Z-plus security for Kurukshetra MP Raj Kumar Saini and action against officers who failed to prevent the violence.

“In Jat Shaheed Shardhanjli Rally at Gwalison, we will not only honour the families of Jats who sacrificed their lives for the community, but also urge the government to meet our demands,” said Pawanjit Banwala, chief of the Akhil Bharatiya Adarsh Jat Mahasabha.

He claimed Jats from nearby states would participate in the rally and place their suggestions to run the campaign peacefully for getting the demands met.

Non-Jats, on the other hand, are resentful of letting perpetrators of violence go scot-free. “Those involved in arson are not being arrested, while the police are harassing innocent people,” said Ombir Singh, a spokesperson for the Loktantra Suraksha Manch.

“Non-Jats demand Z-plus security for Saini who is raising the voice of against Jats, for which he is being threatened on phone, Facebook, Twitter and WhatsApp,” he said, adding non-Jats from other states would reach Delhi on March 28.

A memorandum would be handed over a representative of the Centre and further course of action chalked out if the Centre failed to accept the demands within the deadline, Ombir added.
