Kalpana Chawla Memorial Planetarium(KCMP), one of the most visited places in the city, will soon have online ticket booking facility .
The planetarium daily holds five shows of two 30-minute documentaries— ‘Oasis in Space’ and ‘Astronaut’— based on the life of late NASA astronaut Kalpana Chawla.
However, owing to technical glitches, Astronaut shows have been suspended indefinitely.
Projection equipment installed in 2007 have turned obsolete and it blurs images. The Kalpana Chawla Medical Planetorium has not been holding its popular show ‘Oasis In Space’ due to bad image resolution on the dome projection screen for the last few weeks.
The Science and Technology Department is working to rope in international players for screening more educative astronomy-based short films,” said an official.
Set up jointly by the Haryana Government and the Centre in July, 2007, in memory of Kalpana Chawla, who hailed from Karnal, the Kalpana Chawla Memorial Planetarium is annually visited by nearly 1.39 lakh persons.
