The seminar was presided over by Dr Rana Nayyar, professor, Department of English, Panjab University, Chandigarh, presented the keynote address in which he emphasised upon the fact that new journey of Punjabi Culture has started in the era of globalisation, only those can survive in this era who share the strong bond with their roots and culture. He added that the future lies in the present and should be able to make our present well nourished with mother language. Now-a-days we have created caste system in languages also and we feel that some languages are superior over others. Dr Rana said he found shocking records that the number of people speaking Punjabi in Pakistan is more in India. Dr Jaswinder Singh, Punjabi University, Patiala, during his oration, while speaking on the issue, said the basic solution to the problem is how intelligently we can detect the threats to our language. Negative attitude of youth towards the language is the basic cause of threat, though the highest recorded mother tongue in foreign communities is Punjabi. He added that not writing the language is also a biggest threat. We can come over the outer threats when we would be able to tackle the inner threats to our language. The first academic session was presided over by Dr. Dhanwant Kaur, Punjabi University, Patiala. Two papers by Dr Paramjeet Singh Dhingra and Dr Dariya were presented.
