The Mohali police have reunited seven children with their families over the past one month as part of Operation Muskaan.  Out of the seven children recovered by the police, two were working at a junk dealer’s shop in Bukhari village under the Kharar sadar police station.

Noor Slam (12) and Sharief (13), both from West Bengal, had been sent to work at a shop so that they could help their families financially. The shop owner, Pintu, was also from West Bengal.

Harsimrat Singh, DSP, who is the Nodal Officer of the Muskaan project for Mohali district, said the two children had been sent to Kharar about six months ago by their parents. The junk dealer used to send Rs 3,000 each to the children’s parents.

After the children were recovered, they were sent to the Dusarna Child Home at Kurali. The parents were called and the children were handed over to them.

Roffel and Samsung , aged between 8 and 10 years, were staying at an orphanage in Daffarpur village, Dera Bassi. They had allegedly gone missing and were recovered from near Pinjore.

The police said the two had climbed on to a passing tractor-trailer loaded with fodder from near their place of stay. They could not come down from the moving tractor-trailer. When the vehicle stopped at a traffic light point, the two children got off. They forgot their way back home and reached somewhere near Pinjore. The police recovered the two from near the Surajpur Aggarbati Chowk and later reunited them with their parents. The police also recovered two 17-year-old girls, who had allegedly run away from their homes to get married. One girl was a resident of Fathpur Wahra village of Dera Bassi. She had allegedly run away on July 4 to Ranjitpur village in Shamli district of Uttar Pardesh and recovered on July 10.

Another girl, a resident of Nayagaon, had also allegedly run away on July 7 to get married and was recovered on July 28. They had appeared before the Punjab and Haryana High Court. The two girls were handed over to their parents by the police.

The seventh child was recovered from Hazur Sahib, Maharashtra, on July 9 and handed over to his parents. Fifteen-year-old Gurcharan Singh of Kurali had left home for Hazur Sahib after a quarrel with his parents.
