Even the ‘ghungrus’ of Kathak exponent Rajendra Gangani of Jaipur Gharana seemed to have turned into a musical instrument as he danced to perfection and yet created perfect music in sync with the beats of tabla played by Fateh Singh Gangani, a tabla maestro.

Both of them, along with tabla expert from Bhaini Sahib showed their musical prowess, presenting the subtle sublime music and dance as well as the fast, intense dance ‘bandish’.

Gangani said Satguru Jagjit Singh contributed to classical arts and music. He paid his respect to him by presenting 30 ‘chakras’. “People may wonder why has a dancer come for such an event, but Gangani’s dance and rhythm is music which he creates through his ghungrus.”

He was performing to the packed auditorium at Shri Bhaini Sahib during the Satguru Jagjit Singh Sangeet Sammelan last evening.

Prior to him, Indian classical music exponent Ulhas Kulashankar presented his musical genius through the soulful renditions, by singing complex ragas along with tabla expert Yogesh Shamsi.

“Satguru Jagjit Singh used to say that every Sikh must know how to sing Gurbani and classical music. Thanks to him, we see this amazing celebration of music,” a man from the audience said.
