The hopes of famous Sufi singer Jyoti Nooran's parents were dashed once again today when their daughter, who had married against their wishes, did not return home despite being counselled in the Punjab and Haryana High Court.

Jyoti shot into fame after her duet song "Patakha guddi" that she sung with her elder sister Sultana Nooran. She also won much acclaim following the release of recent Bollywood flick "Highway". Her case came up for resumed hearing yesterday wherein she and her husband Kunal Passi from Phillaur had filed a petition saying they felt threatened from Jyoti's parents as they had married against their wishes.

Jyoti's father Gulshan Meer said, "I have said that I accept her marriage. I have been trying to contact her through various mediators. As a father, I am more concerned about her future and career." "I have been waiting for the day when she will perform again with her sister. We were in Canada and had just returned when she left home on October 30. It was natural for us to react that way as we were not aware of her wedding that took place on August 2," he said.

"Initially, we were against her decision as we were more concerned about her future. But now, I am fine with her marriage and just want her to come back and restart her career. The world wants to see them sing together again," he said.

The court yesterday asked the SSP (Rural) to check the threat perception to the couple and provide security, if needed.
