Lack of healthcare haunts hospitals in Haridwar: BJP

A delegation of the district BJP women wing today met Chief Medical Superintendent Dr Aarti Dhaundiyal and apprised her of inadequate medical facilities in the District Hospital, Mela Hospital and Women Hospital.

Led by district president Rita Chamoli, women wing members said for the past one year there was no gynaecologist in the Government Hospital. Similarly, the government had not appointed medical officer and pathologist for the blood component separator machine, which is vital in spotting and curing dengue patients.

Demanding explanation from the CMS, Rita Chamoli said if the government did not appoint staff, they would be forced to resort to agitation and gherao the Chief Medical Officer, Chief Medical Superintendent, Health Minister and Chief Minister.

“Despite lakhs of rupees allocated during the Ardh Kumbh fair, which was held earlier this year, health facilities are in dire straits in the government hospital. More than 1,000 patients have got affected with dengue in the past three months but they are being referred from the District Hospital to outstation hospitals. This is despite the newly installed blood component separator machine installed in the General Hospital. There is no staff in the hospital to operate the machine,” said Chamoli.

Vice-president Anamika Sharma also raised the issue of unavailability of gynaecologist in the government hospital for the past one year.

“The district has low sex ratio of 880 females per 1000 males, which needs to be given major stress by the Health Department. The district administration should take stringent measures against sex determination clinics. Even iron tablets are not available in the hospital for pregnant women,” said Anamika.

CMS Aarti Dhaundiyal apprised the BJP women wing members that she had written to the CMO and the Health Minister in this regard and had directed to subordinates to ensure availability of adequate medicines in the hospital.

Party’s senior leaders Anjana Chaddha, Renu Sharma, Manu Rawat, Rajani Verma, Anita Dayal, Manju Tomar, Santosh Saini, Renu Sharma and Rashmi Chauhan were part of the delegation.
