With only a few days left for the elections at Lodhi Club, candidates in the fray are using every possible means to woo the voters.

Members are even getting calls from bureaucrats and politicians to vote in favour of particular candidates during the executive committee poll on January 18.

A club member, on the condition of anonymity, said members were getting calls from bureaucrats and politicians to vote for particular candidates. Since some bureaucrats are also nominated executive members of the club, they are lending a helping hand to those in the fray.

In addition to making calls to the members, the contenders are flooding their phones and social networking profiles with messages seeking votes, he said.

Badish Jindal, who represents the Jagmohan Jain group and is in the fray for the post of vice-president, said he, too, came to know that members were getting calls from politicians and bureaucrats.

“Our group, however, is not indulging in all this. We are just appealing to the members by sending messages on their mobiles phones,” he said.

Pawan Garg, who is contesting for the post of general secretary from another group, said he has held various positions in the club in the past eight years.

“Presently, I am the cultural secretary. All members contesting from our group are in their thirties and being young have a new vision for the club. We do not need anyone’s recommendation,” he said.

Lodhi Club is one of the prestigious clubs of the city. It was established in 1996 and has more than 3,000 members. The Deputy Commissioner, Ludhiana, is its ex-officio president.
