Chandigarh: CRB Public School, Sector 7-B, here celebrated Lohri with fervour. Students dressed in traditional Punjabi attire sang songs and danced around the bonfire. Principal Sangeeta Mittal conveyed her best wishes to the students and staff on Lohri. She also motivated them to remain tied to their traditional culture. Students offered groundnuts, rewri and gachak to the god of fire and enjoyed the festival by singing and dancing on the songs in praise of "Dulha Bhatti".
Sharda Sarvhitkari Model Sr Sec School
The pre-primary section of Sharda Sarvhitkari Model Senior Secondary School, Sector 40-D, celebrated Lohri with fun and frolic. A bonfire was lit on the premises.
Shivalik Public School
Shivalik Public School, Sector 41, celebrated the harvest festival of Lohri to mark the end of winter season. Students gave speeches, recited poems and sang traditional Lohri songs telling the significance of the festival. They also enjoyed sweets such as ghachak, rewri and groundnuts.
BMD Public School
Lohri was celebrated with fervour at BMD Public School, Sector 63. Students dressed in traditional Punjabi attires performed bhangra and giddha on the beats of dhol around the bonfire. Students offered til, gur, chirwa, rewri and gachak to the fire and sang popular songs in the praise of "Dulha Bhatti". Ravinder Kaur, Principal of the school, wished everyone “Happy Lohri”. S Baldev Singh, chairman of the school, appreciated the efforts of students and teachers.
St Joseph's Sr Sec School
St Joseph's Senior Secondary School, Sector 44-D, celebrated Lohri on the school premises. Teaching fraternity danced to the beats of drum and performed giddha. Principal Monica Chawla said such traditional ceremonies could serve a wonderful platform to channelise society on the path of reformation and self-introspection.
PML SD Public School
PML SD Public School, Sector 19-C, celebrated Lohri with gaiety and fervour. The sacred fire was lit by Principal Manju Bhardwaj. Ritual of offering prasad to the pious fire was performed by the staff members. Students enjoyed singing and dancing around the pious fire.
Gurukul Global School
Lohri was celebrated at Gurukul Global School, Mani Majra, with gaiety and fervour. A huge bonfire was lit and everyone offered peanuts and sweets to the fire. The festival embodied a spirit of brotherhood, unity, gratitude and merrymaking generating a lot of happiness and cheer. The school management exchanged greetings with staff and students.
Paragon Convent School
Lohri, the festival of happiness and joy, was celebrated with fun and fervour at Paragon Convent School, Sector 24-B. Students and teachers gathered around the fire to celebrate the festival. They sang songs such as “sunder mundriye”. Director Sahibjeet Singh Sandhu and Principal Rajni Dutta were also present on the occasion.
Blue Bird High School
Panchkula: Students and staff of Blue Bird High School, Sector 16, celebrated Lohri with fun and frolic. Senior students entertained everyone by dancing and singing Lohri songs. The Director lit the bonfire and staff and students sang popular Lohri songs. Snacks and popcorns were distributed on the occasion.
St Xavier's High School
Lohri was celebrated in the junior wing of St Xavier's High School with a lot of exuberance and fanfare. The mood on the school premises was upbeat and students were totally absorbed in the festive spirit of Lohri. The celebrations began with a speech highlighting the importance of the festival, which ushers in the cheerful spring season bidding adieu to the dull winter. Headmistress Cynthia Shear congratulated all and dwelled on the importance of such festivals.
Sherwood Convent School
Mohali: Students of Sherwood Convent School, Mohali, celebrated Lohri on the premises of the school to enliven the spirit of brotherhood and oneness and convey the message of popular belief and legends. The essence of the Lohri celebration was to light a bonfire and worship it. Principal Kusum Singhal wished students “happy Lohri”.
Century Public School
Students and teachers of Century Public School, Naya Gaon, Mohali, celebrated Lohri with fervour on the school premises. A special assembly was organised in the morning during which students were briefed about the importance of the day. In the afternoon, three girls of middle classes lit the bonfire in the presence of Chairman S Bhagat Singh, Director Santosh Saluja and Principal Rajesh Bansal. Students made an exciting and enthusiastic show with their dances and songs on Lohri.
AKSIPS-65 Smart School
AKSIPS-65 Smart School celebrated Lohri with aplomb. Jasdeep Kalra, executive director, AKSIPS Group of Schools, inaugurated the function by lighting the bonfire and extending best wishes on the auspicious day. Foot-tapping dances, traditional songs, colourful giddha and popcorn, groundnut, rewri distribution marked the occasion. Director-Principal Jasmine Kalra reiterated the importance of Lohri. Administrator Sidhant Kalra threw light on the sanctity of Makar Sankranti, which is followed by the festival of Lohri.
SIS Public School
SIS Public School, Phase VII, celebrated Lohri with pomp and glory. The ceremony began with a large bonfire, distribution of popcorns, peanuts, sesame seeds and rewris among teachers and students. Students sang various Punjabi and folk songs and also danced to the tunes of “Dulha Bhatti wala”. Principal Inderjeet Kaur Sandhu said festivals are the binding factors that link all religions and regions of the country, redefining their unity and secularity in the modern age.
Gian Jyoti Global School
Lohri was celebrated at Gian Jyoti Global School, Phase II, with a lot of zeal and enthusiasm. The mood on the campus was upbeat and students were absorbed in the festive spirit of Lohri. A special assembly was conducted in which students from junior and senior wings participated. To add fun, teachers from Kindergarten enacted the story of “Dhulla Bhatti” and also performed giddha. Principal Ranjeet Bedi joined them with the hope that the coming year would bring happiness in the lives of the students and teachers as well.
Edustar Adarsh School
Edustar Adarsh School, Kalewal, celebrated Lohri. A bonfire was arranged in the school and students and teachers performed bhangra and giddha to mark the occasion. Principal Anu Sharma said the celebration of festivals motivates the staff and makes students feel a kind of belongingness with the school.
