Dehradun, July 6
Members of the Ram Mandir Samiti and devotees took out the Lord Jagannath yatra in the city here today.
The yatra was an imitation of the annual rath yatra which is originally taken out at Puri, Odisha, on the occasion of Lord Jagannath’s journey to his aunt’s home, Gundicha Temple, with his siblings.
Devotees pulled the huge, colorfully decorated chariot resembling the Jagannath temple structure through the streets of the city.
The idols of Lord Jagannath, his brother Balbhadra and sister Subhadra were mounted on the chariot after a prayer. A huge procession of devotees, musicians playing devotional songs and devotees dancing to their tunes, accompanied the chariot. People standing across the streets showered flowers on the rath and offered food to the devotees pulling the chariot.
Earlier, legislators Harbans Kapoor and Rajkumar inaugurated the yatra at Ram Mandir, Deeplok Colony. The procession then moved across the Chakrata Road, Clock Tower and Paltan Market.
Virendra Sharma, Balesh Kumar, Sanjay Kumar, Nandani Sharma and other members of the temple committee attended the rath yatra.
