Haridwar, January 25

Three-time MLA from the Haridwar city seat Madan Kaushik is geared up for the election campaign to maintain his winning spree for fourth time too. In past fortnight, Kaushik has brought more than 50 activists of the Congress, Samajwadi Party and the Bahujan Samaj Party into the BJP’s fold.

Kaushik is not only eyeing dissident opposition party activists but also those who have influence in their respective wards.

Senior Kadach ward leader Shyamal Dabodiye along with his supporters joined the BJP in the presence of Madan Kaushik today. Similarly, former ward councillor Mehar Chand also left the Congress to join the BJP, expressing full support to Kaushik.

Kaushik had brought into the BJP 15 Muslim youths from Jwalapur earlier this month. Kaushik welcomed

Mehar Chand and Shyamal Daboriya and their supporters into the party and said they had taken the step in their interest of development of the city.

“The Congress has constantly adopted a biased attitude towards Assembly seats represented by BJP legislators. Also, it sidelined party workers and leaders who don’t follow the Harish Rawat faction. This is evident from mass exodus of senior Congress leaders such as Satpal Maharaj, Vijay Bahuguna, Yaspal Arya, Harak Singh Rawat, Pradeep Batra, Kunwar Pranav and hundreds of other party leaders” he said.

Kaushik added Mehar Chand and Shyamal Dabodiya would be given major election campaign responsibilities as they know their areas well.

BJP in charge of Haridwar city constituency Vikas Tiwari said a large number youths joined the party as they had understood the development-oriented vision and governance agenda of the BJP.

“There is a pro-BJP wave in the country since the 2014 general elections. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has changed the way a government works. Demonetisation, Jan Dhan Yojana, impetus to Aadhar card, cash less transactions, corruption-free three years of governance and leap towards the global superpower status are some of the major achievements of the NDA government,” said Tiwari.

Later in the evening, the BJP appointed Mehar Chand as sub-election coordinator for the city seat while Kavita was appointed a member of the women wing executive working body and Shiv Pal Ravi divisional vice-president.

Rakesh Kumar, Pawan Maurya, Manoj Kumar, Soni Kumar, Rahul Kumar, Neeraj Kumar, Rajesh, Anil, Kailash, Dushyant Kumar, Bharat, Soni, Muneesh Kumar, Rupesh, Sanju, Kanha and Chandra Devi joined the BJP today.
