Chandigarh: The state government has declared a gazetted holiday on April 19, instead of already notified April 20, on account of Mahavir Jayanti.

The state government has declared a gazetted holiday on April 19, instead of already notified April 20, on account of Mahavir Jayanti. A spokesperson said Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar had approved a proposal to change the date on the basis of a representation from the Vishva Jain Sangathan, Delhi, stating that the date of Mahavir Jayanti is April 19. Renaming of Agri dept

The state government has decided to change the name of the Agriculture Department to Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Department (Krishi Evam Kisan Kalyan Vibhag). A spokesperson said on Tuesday that the decision had been taken on the recommendation of the National Commission of Farmers. TNS

The state government on Tuesday appointed Neeraj Daftuar for Special Duty to Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar. He shall draw a token salary of Re 1 per month. Daftuar is a communication professional, strategist and entrepreneur. He has over two decades of experience in strategic planning, project management, monitoring and evaluation, communication solutions and consulting. TNS

Docs on duty today

Keeping in view holidays on April 13, 14 and 15, all doctors and other paramedical staff of the BPS Government Women Medical College and Hospital will remain on duty on April 13. Dr RC Siwach, Director of the college, said the step was taken while keeping in view the demand for treatment of the patients. OC

Martyr status sought 

Superintendent of Police Sangeeta Kalia has recommended the state government to accord the status of martyr to constable Raj Singh who was mowed down by cow smugglers on Monday. She has also sought government job for kin of the deceased. Raj Singh was crushed to death when he tried to stop the smugglers. TNS
