Mussoorie, April 27
Malsi Deer Park, 10 km from Dehradun en route to Mussoorie, that lies at the foothills of the Shivalik range and enjoys the status of a mini-zoological park, is all set for a facelift.
PK Patro, District Forest Officer (DFO), Dehradun division, said the mini-zoo was under renovation at present. The work was being done with help from Compensatory Afforestation Fund Management and Planning Authority (CAMPA) and state government at an estimated cost of around Rs 50 crore.
The zoo, once renovated, will house several wild animal species, such as tiger, leopards, black bear, raptors, sloth bear, jackals, hyenas, 15 species of birds and several herbivorous species.
A food court, an aquarium and two rescue centres are also planned at the zoological park, along with an entertainment area for kids, making the place an ideal sight-seeing-cum-picnic spot.
The work on the building administrative, veterinary block, safari road, kitchen for the animals and aviaries had begun and the whole facility would be opened for the tourists this year. The norms to be followed for the creation of a mini-zoo were being adhered to, the DFO added.
