Mani Majra resident held with 3.1 kg charas

The crime branch of the Chandigarh Police apprehended a drug peddler, a resident of Mani Majra and recovered 3.1 kg of charas from his possession. The police claimed that it costs around Rs 8 lakh.
According to the police, the accused, identified as Veer Bhan (30), a resident of Indira Colony in Mani Majra, was arrested by crime branch sleuths from near the BSNL exchange, Modern Housing Complex, Mani Majra, on Monday. The police team was patrolling in the area when they noticed a pedestrian who tried to escape after seeing it. On checking, a bag containing charas was recovered from his possession.
During interrogation, the accused disclosed that he was a taxi driver by profession and a drug addict.
“The accused has revealed that he used to bring these contraband from Himachal Pradesh by bus and sell the same at dhabas located at various places in Haryana”, said a police official.
The police further stated that the accused also used to sell drugs to drug peddlers in Chandigarh, who further sold the same to the youngsters and drug addicts in slum areas.
The police have claimed that the accused used to get the contraband from Manali and various other parts of Himachal Pradesh. The accused was presented in the court today and sent to two-day police remand. — TNS
