The row over allegations of encroachment and violation of approved building plans by certain residents of H Block in Bhai Randhir Singh Nagar Colony took a curious turn when the Municipal Corporation authorities gave clean chit to the violators even as the complainants persisted with their allegations.
Certain residents of the colony had alleged that the owners of two houses in the colony had covered excess area than what was permitted in the approved building plans due to which those living in the neighbourhood were facing problems of sunlight and air. Similarly, two other residents in the vicinity were charged with encroaching upon about 8 feet area of the public street.
The affected residents of the colony had lodged a complaint with the MC Commissioner. Kunal Sofat, a resident, had sought information under the Right to Information Act about the approved building plans and extent of encroachment in these cases.
Officials of the building branch of the MC stated that as per the report of the building inspector there was no encroachment on the road by houses mentioned in the complaint and only finishing work was going on. The report further said at present, no new construction was going on.
The MC officials said while the owners of these houses admitted that the plans of houses were sanctioned but these were not produced during the survey by the field staff. “As the houses are already constructed, the owners have been directed to produce the sanctioned plans, so that alteration/deviation, if any, can be detected and action taken accordingly,” they added.
