Launching a blistering attack on the NDA regime for politicising the Army’s surgical attacks, former minister Anand Sharma today said Prime Minister Narendra Modi was not just the Pradhan Mantri but the Pradhan Prachar Mantri who had mastered the art of propaganda.
Addressing a press conference here, Sharma advised the PM and the NDA regime not to divide the country on the issue and exploit people’s sentiments for narrow political gains.
He accused the NDA regime of trying to divert the attention of the public from important issues like the failed promises and the worrisome economic scenario. “Similar strikes have taken place even previously but the UPA regime chose not to publicise these. We considered it an insult to our valiant soldiers when BJP claims that for the first time the Army has acted against Pakistan,” he said.
“The Army does not belong to the BJP but to the Republic of India so it is high time the BJP stops trying to get political gains from the surgical strikes as no right-thinking person will applaud such behaviour,” he said.
He expressed concern over the state of economy despite the government’s effort of inflating figures, glossing and misrepresenting numbers. “Unemployment is at an all-time high, exports have declined and debt increased while the gross fixed capital formation has moved in the negative, presenting a very grim economic scenario,” he said.
“The HP Congress Committee is doing a good job but there is always scope for improvement and, moreover, there can always be difference of perception,” he said.
