To bring more regularity and discipline in your gardening work, the Municipal Corporation is planning to fix specific days for the removal of garden waste. Fine will also be imposed on the residents who do not conform to the guidelines. The aim behind the move is to improve the state of sanitation in residential areas.
Heaps of garden waste can be seen lying on roadsides, which is often not lifted for days. Though
sweeping work is being done in a satisfactory manner after the launch of the new sanitation system two months ago, the lifting of garbage is not being done on a regular basis.
Notably, to execute the new plan, the MC will divide the entire city into zones. Days will be fixed for each zone for the lifting of garden waste. The residents will only have to give a phone call after completing one’s work.
Mayor Kulwant Singh said the total length of roads in the city was about 500 km. The city will be divided into zones. Days will be fixed when the grass in the garden can be cut.
He said the telephone numbers of the staff responsible for the removal of the waste will be provided to the residents. A penalty will be imposed on residents who fail to follow the schedule. Moreover, they will also be asked to lift the waste on their own. The Mayor said the MC would improve the state of greenery
in the city. Road berms in all sector-dividing roads will be taken over from GMADA after which encroachments will be removed.
He said a meeting with the Chief Administrator, GMADA, had already been held in this regard and formalities were being worked out after which the civic body would take over the work.
The Mayor further said they were also planning to purchase an automatic pruning machine for the removal of wild growth and pruning of trees. The machine costs Rs 2 crore and can cover about 2 km in an hour.
