Moot court contests hone skills of students: SC Judge

The 1st Animal Law Moot Court Competition- 2016 was inaugurated at the Rajiv Gandhi National University of Law in the presence of Justice Dipak Misra, Judge of the Supreme Court of India, today.
The moot court competition was organised by the Rajiv Gandhi National University of Law (RGNUL) in collaboration with the International Council for Jurists (ICJ) and the Jurists. It was sponsored by Humane Society International and Lawmentage.
The inauguration event involved the lighting of ceremonial the lamp, speeches by Paramjit Singh Jaswal, Vice-Chancellor and Justice Dipak Misra. Vote of thanks was proposed by GIS Sandhu, Registrar, and Siddhartha Naik, founder of the International Council of Jurists.
The keynote address delivered by Justice Dipak Misra received a huge applause. Justice Misra emphasised the importance of such competitions as they hone the skills of students and also provide them a fair platform to compete beyond the curriculum.
Justice Misra is indeed the pinnacle of erudition. He elucidated the importance of constantly evolving as students of law, giving the example of an encounter between Pericles and his son.
Justice Misra, quoting TS Eliot, very poignantly explained to every person present that all our experiences will be lost in antiquity, what matter is today. Prof Jaswal elaborated the achievements of Justice Dipak Misra.
The competition is a two-day event with the preliminary rounds and the quarterfinals scheduled for August 27 and the semi-finals and the final scheduled for the August 28.
With 25 teams participating in the first-of-its-kind event, everyone is in for a feisty experience, where the teams are vying for a total prize money of Rs 70,000, with the best team getting a prize of Rs 25,000, runners-up receiving Rs 15,000, best speaker Rs 10,000, best memorial winning Rs 10,000, second-best speaker and the second-best memorial receiving Rs 5,000 each.
