Chandigarh, September 9
The state government plans to present a Bill to exempt the intelligence and security wing of the Punjab Police from provisions of the Right to Information Act, 2005. The move is likely on the third day of the ongoing Assembly session (September 12).
A copy of the notification issued by the Punjab Chief Secretary was circulated among the members of the House today.
As per the notification, the Department of Home Affairs and Justice has exempted the intelligence wing, armed police (including armed battalions of the Punjab Armed Police), commando and Indian reserve battalions, security wing, war-time operational plans of battalions of the border wing, plans of earmarked civil defence towns of Punjab from the RTI Act.
The district police and the government railway police will also be exempt in case the matter related to the collection of intelligence, interpretation and dissemination, security of an individual etc. — TNS
