Union Minister of State for AYUSH Sripad Yesso Naik on Thursday asserted that the traditional system of medicine practiced in the country through the ages focused on disease-free life of an individual. Naik, who was a on a visit to Parmarth Niketan, Rishikesh, said while the Indian tradition system of medicine in intended to make life disease free, the western system of medicine has only targeted remedies for diseases.

Lauding contribution of Parmarth Niketan towards promotion of yoga in the country and abroad, Naik said the presence of a large number of yoga learners from the west at Parmarth Niketan proved its contribution towards promotion of Yoga.

Parmarth Niketan Head Swami Chidanand Saraswati appreciated Central government’s efforts for encouraging yoga in the country. He also held that AYUSH was today getting recognition as a credible system of medicine after the Central government created a separate ministry for it. He also apprised the minister of the efforts undertaken by him towards conservation of environment in the region.
