Rolmel village in Pati subdivision of Champawat district, adopted by Rajya Sabha MP Mahendra Singh Mahra under the Sansad Adarsh Gram Yojana, is deprived of basic facilities such as road, health, education and sports.
Gram pradhan Ravindra Singh says people were expecting speedy development after Mahra adopted the village but nothing of the sort has happened. “No development scheme has been launched. The 7-km kutcha road from the village to the nearby Pati market is in a dilapidated condition. We were promised a concrete road in two years but the authorities concerned have failed to keep promise,” he adds.
Ravindra says a health centre at Rolmel village is the need of the hour as critical patients are forced to go to other medical centres and the dilapidated road, where vehicles can’t be plied, make the situation worse for them. “We also want an intermediate college in the village as the nearest college is seven km away,” he adds.
Mahra says he has ordered the officials concerned to implement the schemes that he had promised. “I have told them that negligence in implementing these schemes will entail strict action,” he adds.
Villagers say the MP had promised a sports ground. “How can a village be declared an ideal village if it has no facility of education, transportation and health. The MP came here only once and never returned to see what was happening here,” he adds.
