Devotees from Multan in Pakistan and those residing in Delhi, Punjab, Haryana, Uttarakhand having ancestral connection with Multan will throng the annual ‘Multan Joth’ festival that will be organised at Har-ki-Pauri on August 22.
“Multan joth” along with milk will be offered to the holy Ganga at various ghats. Various cultural programmes will be organised during the festival which is gaining prominence in Uttarakhand.
Addressing mediapersons here, Shri Multan Joth Sabha president Daulat Ram said the festival would enter in its 105th year.
“Bhakt Roop Chand in 1911 treaded on foot from Multan to Haridwar to offer lighted joth to the holy Ganga. Since then, the pilgrimage has become a tradition for people hailing from Multan. We are expecting a huge rush of devotees, eminent personalities, politicians, cine-television artistes and traders to take part in this festival,” said Daulat Ram.
For this year, Union Science and Technology Minister Dr Harshwardhan, Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar, Pauri Garhwal parliamentarian Bhuwan Chandra Khanduri, Haridwar parliamentarian Dr Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank, BJP national spokesperson Dr Sambit Patra, Delhi Municipal Corporation mayor Subhash Arya, former Finance Minister Delhi Prof Jagdeesh Mukhi, DMC standing committee chairperson, television artistes Amit, Abhinandadn Modi, Sanjay Talwar among others have registered their participation consent.
