The Nationalist Congress Party will launch a membership drive in the state with focus on women and farmers. “It will appoint district presidents and office-bearers shortly,” said president of the women’s wing of NCP Faujia Khan.
“It is just a beginning and at present, we have 1,200 members in the state. We will highlight women-related issues and seek attention of the government on price rise,” she said.
“We will also draw the attention of the government towards the problems faced by women and increase in crime against women. “Crime against women is increasing in the state which is considered safe,” she said.
Taking a dig at the NDA government led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, she said the prices of food grains and pulses have increased alarmingly but the returns of farmers from agriculture have been reduced. Terming the Union government as anti-farmers, she alleged that the government was helping the corporate sector and the agriculturists were being suppressed.
Khan asserted that when NCP president Sharad Pawar was the Union Agriculture Minister, loans worth Rs 70,000 crore were waived but today the agriculture sector was being neglected and the farmers were suffering.
