Azad Hind Fauj leader Subash Chandra Bose’s statue situated at Roshanabad, 15 km from Haridwar city, is still waiting to get officially unveiled.

This statue was erected at Roshanabad near Deep Ganga Apartments in January 2011 by noted industrialist late Deepak Bhardwaj, under the aegis of National Army Society and Vichar Jagriti Manch.

The then Uttarakhand Chief Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank was to unveil this statue on January 23, 2011, along with the then Haridwar parliamentarian and Union Minister for Water Resources Harish Rawat.

But as the state Assembly elections were announced that very day, Nishank and MP Harish Rawat did not arrive owing to model code of election coming into effect.

Later a land dispute arose at the very place where the statue was erected. The district administration shifted this statue temporarily, just adjacent to the Collectorate building office stretch.

As per social activist Jagdeesh Lal Pahwa, for the past four years the statue is lying in a neglected condition as neither the government, district administration or local politicians have shown interest in giving proper recognition to Netaji’s statue.

“That time district administration officials had assured us to relocate this statue at a suitable place near Collectorate building and naming of the square as Netaji square. But four years have passed and no action has been taken in this regard. It speaks volumes about the apathy and disrespect the district administration has for our eminent freedom fighter, who took on single-handedly the mighty British,” said Pahwa.

Vichar Jagriti manch representative Sudhir Sharma asked District Magistrate Harish Chand Semwal to either shift the statue at the said place or officially unveil it at its current location.

Balwant Singh Chauhan, a member, demanded naming of the stretch leading to this statue as Netaji Subash Chandra Bose marg.

Notably, at Subash Ghat just near Har-ki-Pauri, a statue of Netaji Subash Chandra Bose is located, while this one at Roshanabad is the second staute of Netaji.
