A training programme on ‘Management of biomedical waste’ as per the Biomedical Waste Management Rules, 2016, was organised by the Punjab Pollution Control Board (PPCB) here today at Dayanand Medical College and Hospital.
The initiative was taken by Manpreet Singh, chairman, PPCB, to make the healthcare facilities of the city aware about the provisions of the new rules. The PPCB has completed training programmes in two phases during the year 2014-15 covering the entire Government Health Care Facilities. Now, again from December, 2015 onward, new training programmes are being organised which will be completed by June 30.
These programmes are organised by the Punjab Health System Corporation. Local members of the Indian Medical Association (IMA) were also called during the training programme.
After introducing new rules on March 28, now the PPCB has decided to organise special training programmes as there are major changes in the new rules.
During the programme, management training of biomedical waste was provided by TS Gill, environmental engineer, PPCB. Training on infection control was given by Dr Rajoo Singh Chhina, dean (academics), DMCH, Ludhiana. As many as 200 medical professionals of the city attended the programme.
