NIH-Roorkee to conduct survey of Khajjiar lake

Forest Minister Thakur Singh Bharmouri yesterday said the National Institute of Hydrology (NIH), Roorkee, would conduct a survey at the famous Khajjiar lake in Chamba district.

While inaugurating a transit hut constructed at a cost of Rs 14.50 lakh at Khajjiar in the Kalatop-Khajjiar wildlife sanctuary, he said the issue would be taken up with the state government.

All-out efforts would be made for the preservation and beautification of the lake, the minister said, adding that possibilities of developing surrounding villages would also be explored so that tourists could stay for more days at the Khajjiar hill resort.

Bharmouri said the recommendations of the expert body of the NIH were imperative and would go a long way in regular monitoring and conservation efforts.

The issue of opening of a bank branch and an ATM machine would also be taken up with the government, the minister said.
